Insurance Survey
Carried out at the client’s request, an insurance survey is a thorough inspection to assess a vessel’s condition and seaworthiness – often required by insurers to assess the vessel’s condition and determine its value for insurance purposes before providing coverage.
The survey focuses on structural integrity, safety and overall condition to ensure the vessel is fit for its intended use. This survey requires the vessel to be out of the water.
Our Surveyor is accredited by the International Institute of Marine Surveying, recognised by most insurers worldwide.
For international insurers, we recommend clients confirm in advance with their insurer that our Surveyor’s qualifications and report format meet their requirements. Supporting documents are available on request.
Our insurance surveys are typically completed using the following report formats:
- Within New Zealand:
We use insurer-specific Insurance Survey Forms provided by your insurance company. - For Blue Water Sailing (International voyages beyond 200 nautical miles):
We use a Condition Survey Report format (see Condition Survey).
For international insurers, we recommend following the guidelines outlined above.
Condition Survey
Carried out at the owner’s request, a vessel condition survey is a comprehensive assessment of the vessel’s overall condition aimed at identifying any issues that could affect its safety, performance or value.
The result is a detailed report outlining findings including any recommendations for repairs or maintenance. This survey requires the vessel to be out of the water.
A condition survey can be used for insurance purposes for Blue Water Sailing/International voyages
(see Insurance Survey) providing accurate information for your insurer.
It also provides you with valuable information about your vessel’s condition giving you peace of mind and helping you to make informed decisions.
A condition survey is fundamentally the same process as a pre-purchase survey.
Note: Valuations can be undertaken – if requested at time of engaging survey services.
