Our Process

The survey or inspection process can vary depending on requirements and circumstances. Here's what to expect:

1. Initial Consultation

We can discuss your survey/inspection requirements and customise to your needs.

2. Pre-Survey Information

You should provide as much information as possible about the vessel including its age, make, model and location. This helps us prepare for the inspection.

3. Survey/Inspection Costs

Our fees are generally either based on the metreage length of the vessel overall (LOA) or an hourly rate depending on the type and scope of the survey.

We can provide you with a Quote before you engage our survey services.

We will also provide you with our Standard Terms and Conditions of Business.

4. Booking and Preparation

The external survey requires the vessel to be out of the water so we will need haul out details to schedule the survey.

You will need to organise haul out arrangements and access to the vessel for the survey through the broker or the owner (as applicable). This may also involve consultation with a boat yard or marina.

The internal survey can be done while the vessel is in the water, if required.

Before a survey it is recommended where possible to keep the vessel clean, tidy and clutter free to allow the surveyor easy access and a good view.

5. The Survey

Our Surveyor will complete the survey on site (with or without your presence) and discuss findings with you.

The inspection is mainly visual, enhanced by percussion testing. If requested or deemed necessary, moisture meter testing can also be carried out.

The mechanical and electrical systems will be visually inspected only. We recommend consulting a certified mechanic or marine electrician for more in depth assessments and testing.

For sailing vessels mast and rigging are only inspected at deck level. We recommend a full mast and rigging survey be undertaken.

6. Documentation

Our Surveyor will take notes and photographs to document the vessel’s condition and to identify any issues or areas requiring attention.

7. Survey Report

Following the survey you will receive a detailed unbiased factual written report, based on the surveyor’s observations and professional opinion, highlighting the vessel’s condition including any findings, immediate concerns, maintenance advice, recommendations and photographs – all placed in context regarding their significance.

You can expect a comprehensive assessment that helps with decision making whether for buying, selling, insuring or maintaining the vessel.

8. Discussion

Our Surveyor will discuss the findings with you, answer any questions and provide clarification if required regarding the vessel’s condition.
